The weather gods were on our side this year and gave us a fantastic weekend of light winds and plenty of sunshine.
Entries were down on last year but we had 64 ticket holders out on the water doing their best to find the biggest snapper.
day 1 weigh in on Saturday night was the best for a long time with 147kg of snapper in the bins, some very good fish (including the eventual winning one) had been caught.
Sundays final weigh in saw another 273kg of fish brought in making a total of 420kg of fish caught over the 2 days including a Red Pigfish and a granddaddy hapuka!
The first prize winner was Joost Leeuwenburg with a 9.485kg snapper caught from the rocks somewhere up north.
Daniel Bates hooked a 14.78kg kingfish to win that category.
Tessa Bridger won the Ladies section with a snapper of 7.75kg
Drew Robsonwon the Junior section with his 6.355kg snapper and also got closest to the Mystery weight fish for another prize.
Simon Pennington outfished his father Earl, winning the family challenge for a box of beers bringing home a 7.915kg snapper for the 3rd prize snapper too.
The spirited auction of all the fish brought in raised almost $1500 for the Waipu Lions.
This competition could not have happened without the generous support from our many sponsors.
